Improve air circulation

Some tanks – especially those with inlet pipes that are plumbed directly rather than pouring through a tank screen – need help with ventilation. Vent Cowls can be glued directly to the vent on top of your tank in order to let your tank “breathe” and protect your rainwater quality.

Keep mosquitoes out

The Vent Cowl includes a mosquito-proof 955 micron stainless-steel screen to ensure that while air can get into your tank, mosquitoes and other vermin cannot.

Vent Cowls help Secure your System by enclosing your rain harvesting to outside influences, including pollutants, insects and pests. Avoiding contamination keeps your water safer for use.

Manage Standing Water with a Blue Mountain Co Vent Cowl by allowing your tank and rainwater to breath, reducing the negative effects of a system that can’t breath.

  • Installation
    1. Your Vent Cowl has a female socket so it requires a male pipe or flanged fitting for installation.
    2. Use a holesaw to cut an appropriate sized hole in your rainwater tank to fit your pipe or flanged fitting.
    3. If installing your Vent Cowl with a pipe, insert the pipe into the hole you’ve cut and glue it in place with an appropriate sealant.
    4. If installing your Vent Cowl with a flanged fitting, place silicon on the underside of the flange, press it down onto the tank over your cut hole and screw the flange to the tank surface.
    5. Install your Vent Cowl by placing it over the male pipe or flanged fitting and glue in place using solvent weld glue.
  • Maintenance

When properly installed, your vent cowl should be maintenance-free.

  • Product FAQs

When would I use a weatherproof vs a standard vent cowl?

Both standard and weatherproof vent cowls allow fresh air to circulate within your rainwater tank. Weatherproof vent cowls incorporate a cap that shields the stainless steel screen from light (UV) and the weather. They can be used to provide a light (UV) and weather-proof vent on the top surface of your rainwater tank.

Do I need to use a vent cowl if I have a Maelstrom filter installed on my tank?

Vent cowls are optional for rainwater tanks with and without Maelstrom filters. However, the benefit of a vent cowl is that it will ensure the unrestricted flow of fresh air within your tank.
